"Give A Little More Love This Christmas"

4 Dec 2012

Have you seen the John Lewis Snowman advert? I think it's adorable, and while everyone always goes on about the John Lewis Christmas adverts this year is a bit different for me, because in previous years I haven't been a particularly big fan of them (though I did kind of love this one.)

I love the concept, the execution (excuse the advertising speak, I worked for over a year in an ad agency) and the heart of it. I also love that when I showed it to Luke he said 'what kind of death wish snowman wears a hat and scarf?' - not an original quote, we can't remember where we heard that first - to which I replied in hushed tones 'is he trying to kill her?'

In case you're an advertising/video nerd like me/him, this might be something you'd like. It was sent to me by the wonderful people of John Lewis, and I personally really enjoyed watching it.

Introducing.. the making of the snowman advert!

  2. Thanks for sharing the making of this ad, it was really interesting. I do like the John Lewis ads but I think that this year it is Gabrielle's version of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's which has made the ad for me (the original is one of my favourite songs) and I didn't think anyone could better it, then she did. Mind you James Arthur's version of it last Saturday I think has even surpassed Gabrielle's version lol! John Lewis always do great ads and I look forward to seeing what they bring out each year.

  3. I didn't understand this advert at first (because I didn't see the wrapping paper on the floor in the end). I thought that the snowman was walking off and leaving the girl and the music was added sarcastically. It's interesting how they made it look like a winter wonderland when it was actually filmed during the summer! xx

    Almost Delightful

  5. I have seen that advert and I did like it, and thought it was really sweet but with adverts like that I always wonder what they have to do with the product. I'm still adjusting to the fact that really the products have little to do with the adverts these days.

    1. From the research I've seen it's because the majority of people don't like to feel like they're being openly sold to anymore.. so abstract adverts that make the retailer stick in your head are supposedly more effective than advents that simply tell you what to buy
